Crackonomics collects opinions on US drug policy that may interest you to know. I also found a youtube video by Crackonomics call Unintended Consequences. An effort initiated by Senator Jim Webb is a realistic chance at substantively improving drug and prison policy through legislation. The National Criminal Justice Commission Act of 2009 will finalize important recommendations this year, which means we need to keep up the pressure for sane drug policy by contacting our lawmakers.

Thanks for mentioning our website. I have been frustrated over the last 5 years reading blogs where there appears to be a lot of support for changing drug policy, however, the majority of the people tend to throw their arms up in the air and say what can I do??? Hopefully enough people will participate in developing a new drug law and pressure Congress to take action. If we wait for the politicians to take the initiative, it may take a VERY long time before drug laws are changed.

It may take time and now is as good as any to inspire a re-shaping of public perceptions from bias and frustration to compassion. This is an excellent debate. My hope is to impact perception and legislation sooner than later. I am very interested in the success of Senator Webb’s initiatives in penal reform and the potential impact of that. Firing the reform debate up is where its at right now! There are many forces out there gearing up to take this on. I believe perceptions are changing. People are disillusioned by the hard nosed punitive approach. What better timing than now.
